Archives - Kafka’s Dick

by Alan Bennett

Directed by Danny Swanson

Friday 11th – Saturday 19th June 2004 in the Auditorium

It is 1919 and Kafka extracts a promise from Max to burn all his writings after his death. Max breaks his promise. We are then transported to a 1980s living room where Sydney is writing an article on Kafka. He is inexplicably joined by the reincarnated Kafka who must be prevented at all costs from finding copies of the writings that should have been destroyed.

An intelligent and humorous play, full to the brim with Bennett’s witty dialogue and humane observations.

“Go easy on the cheese straws,” says God in the final scene.

“Heaven is going to be hell,” says a glum Kafka.
